So I dropped by the local crap merchant, and happened upon what I consider to be a super sweet 1988ish polaroid camera.

Took it home, tested it with an old battery pack, and everything seems to be in working order. As I was browsing etsy, I was looking for a similar product and couldn’t find it. I then looked on ebay and no luck. The internet wasn’t any help either. All of the “cool cams” that I could find were of the red and black or pink and grey variety. Those are priced pretty darn high. This guy makes sales on them at the 80 dollar range. I mean, he is selling them with a pack of film, but those are 20 bones on ebay.

So I have NO CLUE how to price this thing. Normally, I would just slap down a price between 15-25 dollars and be happy with the small profit. However, this thing not only looks sweet, but also seems to be slightly rare.
That’s where you come in. What do you think? Any help would be appreciated.

Goodness. I know how you feel. This is one of these situations where I would be going back and forth too, between my “fair pricing” philosophy and my “OMG this could be rare” feelings
Have you thought about trying ebay and see how it goes? I don’t generally sell on ebay but am thinking about it for a few things I have no idea how to price.
price it at what you think it’s worth, maybe try it for $60 or $70? you can always do 2 things – lower the price after a few weeks if it doesn’t sell or better yet, let people know in the listing that if they think the price isn’t fair that they can make an offer! it’s all about wheeling and dealing. if you get what you want for it and someone thinks they’re getting a deal then it’s win-win with a touch of interactive Price is Right fun thrown in.
I have to say this is an awesome Polaroid camera… the colors remind me of the Fresh Prince TV show.
I think $60 seems fair… really it’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it!

I agree, the 60-70 range seems good. It definitely sounds like it’s a rare commodity. Have you ever sold on eBay before? That might be easier than a sticker price on Etsy, people could bid and you’d get a better idea of how much it’s worth.
Thanks for the tips guys. I’m hesitant to list on ebay as I think I could probably sell it on etsy solid for 50. Ebay, I’m less confident. But what if I could get it for over 100 on ebay!! Arg! Oh the agony!
I think i’m going to go with 60 bucks on etsy. I’m going to include a super cool Polaroid case to put it in, so I think that should help with its appeal.
Start high! Start riidculously high! Price at $85 or $90. If you can’t find it anywhere else, chances are no one else can. You set the market price. So pay yourself for finding something awesome. Someone might buy it at that price. Leave it at $90 until your listing has to renew, then price at $75. Keep bringing the price down by $15 for each renewal. But it’s so interesting and rare that just having it in your shop will attract people to your shop.
People yell at me for pricing things too high but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked myself, “Will someone possibly pay $90 for a mustard yellow American Tourister suitcase?” and the answer has been: yes, yes someone will.
I agree with the three Katherines
Go wild…..if you feel it worth $100 then go at it. You’ll know soom enough but when you list tell everyone that it’s rare and you where unable to find anywhere on the net. I sell on etsy and if I know something is hard to find then I list it as such. I had a item up for 5 months but someone out there finally know what I was selling a jumped at it.
